Who am I and what is the Illuminated Owl?

Think of me as Joseph, he of the amazing coat of many colors. That is me to a T. I wear many coats, both personally and professionally. I am a student of all things political, most things international, and of history. I am an unemployed actor. I am an editor by trade, but I am also a published writer. I operate no less than three sites or blogs.

More than anything else, I love to read and I love to watch movies. I am a movie Buff with a capital B. Among my many different dream jobs would be to host on TCM or another classic movie channel. I also love to listen to music, but then, who doesn’t? By academic training, I am a political historian. That includes some other dream jobs, including (but not limited to) working for UNESCO or similar international organization, being a commentator/journalist for a news network, and being a politician.

These varied hobbies, passions, and training have led to an equally diverse blog. We live in political times, so much of what I write about is political. As I love history, there will be some posts on that. Given my passion for pop culture, many posts will be about varying things within pop culture. Where I post something will depend much on what my underlying reason for writing it was. Thus, a political post on Gone with the Wind is found under Pop Culture, because the point of my post is about the art, not the politics.

I welcome comments. I may or may not choose to respond. I will moderate any discussion that may occur. I will also remove any comments that are disrespectful to anyone else commenting, or disrespectful to me. Dissent if you will, but do it respectfully, without unnecessary language, without threats or demeaning attitudes, or your comment will be removed. I created this blog because I love to write, I love to share, and because many people have urged me to. But I don’t need things to get ugly.

Many of the posts are older. I had a blog years ago that went no where (I never shared it out), so some posts are from my old blog. Some are from various journal entries. Some are from the Internet, where I posted on something and particularly liked it. The same goes for some Facebook posts that struck me as being particularly detailed. Any post that isn’t outright now, I have attempted to contextualize with when I wrote it and in response to what.

I hope any readers enjoy. Some posts will undoubtedly offend. Some will gets nods. Some will make people laugh (I hope). But make no mistake. The blog is for me. At the end of the day, I write for myself.
